365:2011 - 27th February 2011 - Day 58 of 365

Yesterday I said that if you squinted at the photo you could see one of the Severn Bridges... Well, your day of squinting is over my friend, because today, on the motorway whilst travelling back from Bristol (where we picked up a table Kate had bought on Ebay), I missed my junction. My "correction route" took us very close to Severn Beach and the end of the old Severn Bridge, so we stopped for a quick walk and I took a couple of shots. The opposite end of this bridge is Wales... but we hadn't had our inoculations, so we didn't cross...

365:2011 - 26th February 2011 - Day 56 of 365

This afternoon, whilst Kate was at the gym, I went for a drive and walk to try and get some much needed inspiration for a photograph... As it is the final day of my February Alphabet Fun challenge, I needed something related to the letter Z...
It was a muddy walk but as I stood there, on top of Haresfield Beacon, with the sun going down over the River Severn in the distance, I felt incredibly peaceful, "Almost Zen-like" I thought to myself... and there I had it... "Zen".
With that, I rattled off a few shots and legged it back to the car before I was stranded on a hillside in the dark...

This place also reminded me of the early part of Nineteen Eighty-Four when Winston and Julia meet up in the countryside; a rare oasis of peace in the World and in stark contrast with where they live (in George Orwell's vision of a dystopian London). In the novel, this trip to the countryside represents a happy time before everything goes very wrong, when Winston and Julia are forced to betray each other in Room 101 and conform to society's strict rules...

If you squint, you can see the Severn Bridge...

I struggled for a Y for FAF... but hit upon an idea I liked and went out at lunchtime to find some sheep!

This weekend has flown past but it was a relaxing Sunday today. I went on a photo drive where I got lost, muddy and struggled to find anything I wanted to photograph...
In the end, I managed to salvage this from the images that I took... but it still took lots of processing to get something I was happy with...

This shot was taken in the day, but the processing has made it look a bit more nocturnal...

A quiet day today, not much happened really... Unless, of course you count the trip I took to Staverton Airport, where I ran up and down the runway with my arms out, occasionally stopping to catch my breath and take some photos. It turns out that running around on runways is illegal... Who knew?!?

Anyhoo, once I'd escaped from the law and was safely hidden in my secret underground bunker, I still couldn't settle on a shot I liked...

Whilst trying to come up with something I took a look at the the local map and found a village, not too far away, called Kinsham... so I took a drive to see what I could find...

365:2011 - 7th February 2011 - Day 38 of 365

Whilst carrying a vial of radioactive green goo home from my local nuclear waste dump, I tripped over a discarded loaf of wholemeal bread. As I fell the the vial flew from my hands, spinning end over end, eventually landing on the immaculately clean and white pavement a few yards ahead of me. For a few hopeful seconds it wobbled on its base, turning and teetering before finally losing its balance and spilling the precious, superpower giving contents all over the, previously mentioned, immaculately clean and white pavement...

I knew I should have put the lid on...

Other than that it was pretty good day...

I managed to get out at lunch-time today. It was very sunny and I drove for a fair few miles looking for the shot I wanted of the Malvern Hills.
I found a handy field that gave me roughly what I was after; a clear, unobstructed view without pylons, houses, masts, giant robots, lions, tigers or indeed bears getting in the way...

It's not very often I take infinite zoom, high f-stop landscapes and I was pretty amazed at how it showed up a large number of dust-spots on my sensor... nothing a bit of editing couldn't handle... but still...
